After 5 days and over 3800 km, we made it to Tuktoyaktuk today. We started the morning exploring Inuvik a bit and then set out with a bit of cloud and a lot of wind. When we stopped to film we immediately froze, as did the drone (lesson learned, a frozen drone likes to ignore all user direction and fly to the absolutely most inconvenient - if even possible - place to try to land... We celebrated in Tuktoyaktuk with a bottle of champagne that JC brought along. We explored the town, but it was interesting. Not long after we were parked at the end of the road a Hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk official vehicle with two staff members showed up to see who we were and what we were up to. JC learned that the person who usually ran the souvenir shop had closed for the winter but we could drop by his house to see what he had. We were welcomed into his home to shop for carvings etc laid out on his deck. That friendly northern hospitality! We quickly learned that nothing was open in the off season so we stopped at the local grocery store and replenished our snack supplies and headed south back to Inuvik for the night. Arriving early gave us time to rest and get refreshed before we get back on the road for some long days and cold nights ahead of us.
A total success!
