How It Got Started
TtT: Trip to Tuk
As our teenagers began to recede into their phones and hide in their rooms playing video games we as fathers struggled to find meaningful ways to connect. The pandemic has been hard on the kids and as parents we struggle to keep them engaged with their families while balancing their screen time which in many ways is where they experience the majority of their social interactions. We wanted to find something to do that would enable us to have a bonding moment we can all look back on for the rest of our lives, a challenge that we can work together to succeed at, and what better than an epic journey to the farthest drivable point in Canada.
Each of the three vehicles will be a team of father and teenager, working together as a whole team of 6, but also prepared to survive alone as a dyad should any emergency happen en-route. The journey will be roughly 8000 km round trip and we expect to be on the road for 12 days. As much as possible each of the teams of two will sleep inside their vehicles as the group will search out camping sites along the way.
Planning for this epic journey began in the summer of 2021 and meetings were held to plan equipment, routes, emergency rehearsals, and logistics. Each dyad had a responsibility to themselves as well as the overall team to ensure the mission is executed successfully. The main tasks divided between them were equipment, logistics and food.
This journey would not be successful without the support of the community and our families.
